GREEN DATA CENTER

 The green data center

More than social responsibility: a foundation for growth, economic gain and operating stability
Global warming and the increase of toxic waste generated by electronic devices are some of the issues that are being currently addressed through the use of the so-called “green technologies”. Although the solution to these important problems does not depend on a single individual, industry, government, or nation, there are contributions that can be made at each of the levels indicated to reduce global warming and toxic waste. In this respect green data centers can be both environmentally and financially efficient by reducing energy consumption.
DEFINITION
A green data center is an enterprise class computing facility that is entirely built, managed  and operated on green computing principles. It provides the same features and capabilities of a typical data center but uses less energy and space, and its design and operation are environmentally friendly.

GREEN DC CRITERIA

High Energy Efficiency
Air Management and Effectively Utilizing Cold Air
Data Center Infrastructure Management.
Energy Efficiency Opportunities

 Energy Efficiency
Purchasing High Energy Efficient Server, UPS’s and PDU.
We can reduce carbon footprint by taking advantage of options for more Eco-friendly sources of power.
Companies can save energy and gain cooling capacity by relaxing stringent relative humidity and temperature requirements and Monitoring of same will help us to reduce/identify the hot-spot in DC.

Cold Air Utilization Effectiveness
Leveraging low-cost supplemental cooling options—such as water or refrigerant heat ex-changers.
Improving rack cooling efficiency by employing a rear door heat ex-changer or an enclosed racking system to dissipate heat from high-density computer systems before it enters the room.
Clearing under-floor blockages and implementing effective Bus Bar System.

Data Center Infrastructure Management
         1. DCIM tools as one of the best technologies that can help companies make their       infrastructure energy-efficient and green.
 2. Until 2009, DCIM had virtually no market penetration, but today it is one of the most significant areas of green computing.
3. DCIM brings together standalone functions such as data centre design, asset discovery, systems management functions, capacity planning and energy management to provide a holistic view of the data centre, ranging from the rack or cabinet level to the cooling infrastructure and energy utilization.
4. It helps encourage the efficient use of energy, optimize equipment layouts, support virtualization and consolidation, and improve data centre availability. DCIM tools can help data centre managers improve capacity planning, which can reduce hardware volumes and the associated cooling costs.
CONCLUSION
Applying innovative technologies within the data center can yield more computing power per kilowatt. With technology evolution and innovation outpacing the life expectancy of data center equipment.
