EMBEDDED BASED EB BILLING THROUGH POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION

Abstract

In this project, we have tried to improve upon the process of monitoring collecting of the data of energy consumption by the consumer through power line carrier communication. The idea is to reduce the hassle of manual collection of the energy consumption, especially in the case of house hold services.

Here the existing electromagnetic energy meters, currently in use need to be replaced. Instead an FM transistor along with an optical sensor is integrated to the energy meter. A receiver is placed at the other end from where the electrical supply is fed. In the receiver side MICRCONTROLLER is interfaced with the system with proper isolation, will show the energy consumption data with corresponding charges. Here we are using PIC 16F877 microcontroller. The PIC 16F877 is a low-power, high-performance 8-bit microcomputer with 4Kbytes of Flash programmable and Erasable read only memory (PEROM).The optical sensor senses the number of revolutions of the energy meter and modulates a high frequency carrier, which in turn is transmitted to the receiver at the remote place through the same lines, which brings in the electric supply. The receiver detects the modulated carrier and resolve for the energy meter constant to give out a direct of the KWHr consumed with the corresponding charges.

  1. hi sir i'm a final year electronics and communications student and i'm doing my final year project on automatic energy meter reading through the power line carrier.what i want to do is to update the meter reading to a PC and simulate the updated data to test the suitable spread spectrum technique for power line communication.so please help me the simplest way to update the meter reading to a PC.
